Rev. Raymond J. Payne Obituary and Funeral Details
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. — The Rev. Raymond J. Payne, 76, of Schroon Lake, N.Y., joined his Lord and Savior Sunday, Sept. 2, at the Glens Falls Hospital.
The Rev. Payne was born March 1, 1936, in Andalusia, Pa., the son of the late Raymond W. and Kathleen Delaney Payne.
The Rev. Payne was a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Bible, he was a pastor for 21 years serving at Calvary Baptist Church in Woodsville, N.H., Wayside Bible Baptist Church in Livermore, Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ellsworth and he was an interim pastor of the First Baptist Church in Ticonderoga, N.Y.
Following the in-line-of–duty death of his son, David R. Payne of the Lewiston Police Department, July 23, 1988, the Rev. Payne devoted his life to caring for the families of fallen police officers all over the country. He was a member of Peace Officers for Christ and the International Conference of Police Chaplains.
The Rev. Payne is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Schaul Payne of Schroon Lake, N.Y.; his daughters, Beth Williams of Bradenton, Fla., Ginny Dow and Deb Ritz, both of Lynchburg, Va., and Judy Crotts of Anchorage, Alaska; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew.
He was predeceased by his son, David Raymond in 1988; and his sister, Kathleen Payne in 1952.

It is with sadness that we pass on this message from Ray’s family…
“We just want to let our friends know that Ray Payne, husband of Barb and dad of Beth Williams, Ginny Dow, Deb Payne Ritz and Judith Payne Crotts, died this morning at about 11:30. Thank you for your prayers these past days. We are grieving but thankful that he is at peace.” – Judith Payne Crotts

Prayer Update

It is now August and time continues to move ever so rapidly! After several months of doctors and tests, we have been given the date: Tuesday, August 7th, will be the start of the chemotherapy treatments.
Annual follow-up tests, including several bone marrow biopsies, kept track of the M.G.U.S., the pre-cursor to Myeloma, diagnosed in late 2002, following Ray’s time spent at “Ground Zero” (the World Trade Center – 9/11).
There is no known cure for Multiple Myeloma – cancer in the blood and the bone marrow – but our oncologist says “full remission is what we can expect.” “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” Luke 1:37
We would appreciate your continued, faithful prayers… our prayer and desire is that we would be a good witness to all the nurses and doctors we will come in contact with … we want to be “ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:” 1 Peter 3:15
We did make it to Maine last week for the 3rd Annual 5K Road Run in memory of our son, David, and daughters Ginny and Judy were there, too! Lewiston Police Department also sponsored a breakfast following in honor of Officer Paul Simard. Many more photos are available on the Lewiston Police Dept’s Facebook page.
Recently Ray did a memorial service for a police officer’s young wife who died of cancer – they knew of Ray’s cancer, so there was a bond… we want to continue to reach our law enforcement community to show that there is a Loving God Who cares for them. Once again, thank you for your faithfulness in prayer and support.

Prayer Request
Warm greetings, once again, in His Name…
Less than a month ago we sent out a prayer request asking you to remember some special health needs. Recent annual follow-up blood and other tests regarding Ray’s time at “Ground Zero” (the World Trade Center – 9/11) indicated elevated problems. He was diagnosed with M.G.U.S. in late 2002, which is a pre-cursor to myeloma.
The kidney doctor and the oncologist said that blood tests now show severe kidney problems, and Ray was being further tested to determine for the advance and treatment of multiple myeloma. Over the years he has had several bone marrow biopsies.
We got the results of the one that was done two weeks ago yesterday. The oncologist told us that it showed that Ray now has multiple myeloma. It is a cancer of the blood and bones. He will have four months of weekly chemotherapy. It is likely that he will progress into “complete remission.”
We definitely appreciate your continued prayer and your encouragement, and will let you know how things progress. Please remember Barb, also, as all these things weigh heavily on her and her physical and spiritual needs for extra strength and stamina.
As David of old exalted God – knowing with assurance that he walked in VICTORY … so we are in His loving care …

Prayer Request
Warm greetings, In His Name…
It’s been a busy spring with many events surrounding National Police Week: the annual National Police Parade in Newport, Rhode Island; the New York State Police Memorial in Albany; the Maine State Law Enforcement Memorial in Augusta and the Lewiston Police Memorial; the annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Sunday in North Syracuse; and other opportunities to serve, even the retirement of a local trooper, gave us many miles on the vehicle… the Lord is the One Who grants us the strength and stamina… and we thank you for your faithful prayers and support!
Now we are asking you to remember some special health needs. Recent annual follow-up blood and other tests regarding Ray’s time at “Ground Zero” (the World Trade Center – 9/11) have indicated elevated problems. He has been sent to a new pulmonologist in Burlington, Vermont, plus a new kidney doctor. A new gastroenterologist (for stomach) and a new ear, nose and throat doctor appointments are being set soon. Also, an appointment was held yesterday (Tuesday, May 23rd) with an oncologist Ray hasn’t seen for over a year.
The kidney doctor and the oncologist said that blood tests show severe kidney problems, and Ray is being further tested to determine for the advance and treatment of multiple myeloma. We definitely would appreciate your prayer, and will let you know how things progress.
