It is with sadness that we pass on this message from Ray’s family…

“We just want to let our friends know that Ray Payne, husband of Barb and dad of Beth Williams, Ginny Dow, Deb Payne Ritz and Judith Payne Crotts, died this morning at about 11:30. Thank you for your prayers these past days. We are grieving but thankful that he is at peace.” – Judith Payne Crotts

“So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

1 Corinthians 15:54–58

What a legacy Ray has left to so many of us, who like him, have lost a child in law enforcement. His ministry to us at Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) Parents’ Retreat have been a highlight each year. His devotion to God and and to the healing of our hurting hearts made us better Christians and able to share God’s and Ray’s love with other Survivors. What a gentle, loving, inspirational man! We will miss him.

Ray was a blessing to all of us who knew him from the Parents’ Retreats. Jim and I loved going to the devotions he shared each morning. I believe there was a crowd of people waiting to greet him in heaven, including my husband, Jim. What joy he is experiencing now with his Saviour, and being reunited with his son! But I am so sorry for your loss and will remember you during these very difficult days. May God’s loving arms hold you up and give you strength.

Sorry for the loss of husband, father and friend; but thankful for all he has done, and confident that he can now begin to reap his reward.
