Ray Payne Showing Signs of Improvement – Update #5

August 28, 2012 1 comment

Update from Ginny Dow – August 28, 2012 – 4:00 AM EDT:

“I just finished giving Dad a cup of orange jello. Seems small, but this is such a huge step to us. He asked for it: “Jello,” and then with every bite, he whispered (alternately), “Tastes good” and “yes, please.” The epitome of politeness. Then when I reminded him of who I am and where he is, he asked: “is it really you, Ginny?” I said yes. He whispered (very haltingly), “Why aren’t you in school?”

I think he’s coming back! : ) We came prepared for the worst, as most of you know. We were told that he was dying. We brought funeral clothes. We all feel so incredibly blessed to have more time with this wonderful man who means so much to so many people.”

Update from Deb Payne Ritz – August 27, 2012 – 6:00 PM EDT:

“Dad seems better this evening, he is now off the respirator and breathing on his own! He is squeezing our hand when we talk to him, and nods or shakes his head when asked questions…on his third dialysis now & we are hoping his kidneys start responding soon. It’s just day to day now as we watch for small improvements. Thank u for continued prayers and words of encouragement.”

Update from Judith Payne Crotts – August 26, 2012 – 10:00 AM EDT:

“Thanks to all for praying. My dad came through the night. He’s still critical, but seems to be able to hear us and is occasionally responsive by squeezing a hand (which is so precious to us right now.)”

Update from Mark Dow  – August 26, 2012  at 12:00 PM EDT:

“Ray is showing very small, incremental improvements. Please continue to pray as he remains critical in ICU at Glen Falls Hospital.”

Update from Ginny Dow – August 25, 2012 – 10:59 AM EDT:

“Dad is still hanging in there . . . starting a second dialysis treatment this am. Fighting the infections with strong meds. Thanks for the prayer . . .”

Update from Mark Dow  – August 24, 2012  at 11:05 AM EDT:

“The doctors have called the family to come so we are headed to NY. We will let you know as more info is available. He is in the Father’s hands.”

Update from Mark Dow – August 23, 2012 – 11:11 PM EDT:

“Please pray and pass this on to prayer warriors that you know! Ginny’s father (Ray Payne) is diabetic and recently diagnosed with multiple myaloma and is in his first course of chemo. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance today for possible dehydration and extreme pain. He is now possibly with meningitis, he is unresponsive and his kidneys have shut down. He has faithfully served the Lord Jesus for about 50 years as a Pastor and a Police Chaplain and now needs us to intercede for him.

Prayer Update

A cross marks the location where Officer David Payne fell mortally wounded on July 23, 1988.

Warm greetings, in His Name,

It is now August and time continues to move ever so rapidly! After several months of doctors and tests, we have been given the date: Tuesday, August 7th, will be the start of the chemotherapy treatments.

Annual follow-up tests, including several bone marrow biopsies, kept track of the M.G.U.S., the pre-cursor to Myeloma, diagnosed in late 2002, following Ray’s time spent at “Ground Zero” (the World Trade Center – 9/11).

There is no known cure for Multiple Myeloma – cancer in the blood and the bone marrow – but our oncologist says “full remission is what we can expect.” “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” Luke 1:37

We would appreciate your continued, faithful prayers… our prayer and desire is that we would be a good witness to all the nurses and doctors we will come in contact with … we want to be “ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:” 1 Peter 3:15

We did make it to Maine last week for the 3rd Annual 5K Road Run in memory of our son, David, and daughters Ginny and Judy were there, too! Lewiston Police Department also sponsored a breakfast following in honor of Officer Paul Simard. Many more photos are available on the Lewiston Police Dept’s Facebook page.

Recently Ray did a memorial service for a police officer’s young wife who died of cancer – they knew of Ray’s cancer, so there was a bond… we want to continue to reach our law enforcement community to show that there is a Loving God Who cares for them. Once again, thank you for your faithfulness in prayer and support.

In His Loving Care,

Barb and Ray

Prayer Request

June 20, 2012 1 comment

Warm greetings, once again, in His Name…

Less than a month ago we sent out a prayer request asking you to remember some special health needs. Recent annual follow-up blood and other tests regarding Ray’s time at “Ground Zero” (the World Trade Center – 9/11) indicated elevated problems. He was diagnosed with M.G.U.S. in late 2002, which is a pre-cursor to myeloma.

The kidney doctor and the oncologist said that blood tests now show severe kidney problems, and Ray was being further tested to determine for the advance and treatment of multiple myeloma. Over the years he has had several bone marrow biopsies.

We got the results of the one that was done two weeks ago yesterday. The oncologist told us that it showed that Ray now has multiple myeloma. It is a cancer of the blood and bones. He will have four months of weekly chemotherapy. It is likely that he will progress into “complete remission.”

We definitely appreciate your continued prayer and your encouragement, and will let you know how things progress. Please remember Barb, also, as all these things weigh heavily on her and her physical and spiritual needs for extra strength and stamina.

As David of old exalted God – knowing with assurance that he walked in VICTORY … so we are in His loving care …

“Wherefore David blessed the LORD before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be Thou, LORD God of Israel our father, for ever and ever. Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is Thine; Thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and Thou art exalted as head above all. Both riches and honour come of Thee, and Thou reignest over all; and in Thine hand is power and might; and in Thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.” I Chronicles 29:10-12

In His Blessed Name,

Barb and Ray
