Update: Barb Payne Home with the Lord – June 7, 2014

Update: Police Chaplain Ray Payne Promoted to Heaven – End of Watch: September 2, 2012

Since their son’s death, the Paynes dedicated their lives to “being there” – at police funerals, memorials, and other times of need. Their involvement in ministry to the law enforcement community provided needed support for grieving parents, spouses, and families, as well as co-workers and departments.

For over twenty years Barb and Ray traveled extensively, encouraged churches and others to sponsor “Police Appreciation” events, as well as being involved in seminars, conferences, teen camps and retreats.  Ray also spent several months ministering around the clock at “Ground Hero” in New York City with the first responders and surviving co-workers of those killed by the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

Ray’s earthly watch ended on September 2, 2012 after a short battle with cancer.  His dear wife, Barb joined him in heaven on June 7, 2014. Together, they have been reunited with their son David and their blessed Savior Jesus Christ.

    Dear Ray and Barbara,

Just thinking about you wondering how Barbara is doing and if you are able to get some relief from the snow. We have had a record snow here but not near as much as you have. Thursday the Police Dept had a memorial ceremony for Molly at her grave site. Our pastor shared Romans 8:24,25. Opens the opportunity for a good testimony. Any chance you might be coming our way (Missouri) this year? God Bless You.

God bless you Ray and Barbara! I am so looking forward to the day I am able to join you both to walk on streets of gold for some long talks with you and David. You created a legacy through your faithfulness to the law enforcement community around the world as the Lord led you through the storm after the death and final promotion of David. My prayer is that we could continue to pass the story through our international outreach. I miss those early years with our excited conversations as we dreamed of translating the Only One Son tract into several languages. Lord willing we will be able to continue that work.

    Thankful for His Grace,

God bless you as you continue walking through life here, with your valiant son There. Here’s a link to our latest blog post highlighting the sacrifice of the officers in Charlottesville this past weekend:

I was going through some old computer files and came across the link for Ray and Barbara’s page. It’s coming up on the 19th anniversary of the terror attacks of 9/11 this year and I remember meeting Ray for the first time while we were working together at the World Trade Center. Watching Ray walking around the site talking with personnel working the scene and handing out the tracts with his son’s picture on it, I grew curious as to what he “was selling”. We would soon become great friends as I would with several other Police Chaplains who had responded to assist our team at the WTC
After many hours, days, weeks and months, with Ray and the other Chaplains “beating me up”…lol, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior and to this day I remain steadfast.
God sent me many Men of God when I had no need for God and HE revealed Himself to me through them and I am forever grateful.
I miss my friend Ray, but I know we will meet again, as well as many of my friends that I met at the Trade Center, who have gone home to the Lord.
