Prayer Update

June 6, 2008 Leave a comment

Warm greetings, Prayer-partners!

Just a brief note for much-needed prayer support . . .

We are “straight-out” with the AMERICADE here in the area this week (in the past, there have been usually 50,000 motorcycles!) … Ray’s been down to make contacts every day – Lake George is their headquarters, but they’re actually everywhere!  There are not as many motorcycles this year – perhaps because of the gas costs and other expenses?    But there are a lot!

The “Blue Knights” are law enforcement who own and ride motorcycles – I kind of zero-in on them … but this year there hasn’t been too many visible.   There is a greater number of “Red Knights” – motorcycle enthusiasts who are firefighters … and I have had some real special opportunities with them.   I have 2 tracts written by a retired Fire Chief from the Boston,Massachusetts, area, Lee Callahan, and they have seemed eager to take copies, along with our tract, Only One Son.

Saturday morning we head for Philadelphia – all services on Sunday at the Lighthouse Independent Baptist Church, on South Broad Street, are Law Enforcement Appreciation services … the Philadelphia police are going through some rough times – recently had 3 officers killed … lots of political mess with the mayor and city … so, we would appreciate much prayer … then, Monday we go on to Lynchburg, VA – for a brief visit with daughter Deb and family … also, Ray has contact with the Virginia State Police from a previous visit request with VA troopers … lots of traveling in June … thanks for your faithfulness in prayer for the spiritual, physical, and material needs to be met …

Philippians 4:19   “But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus!”

In His Eternal Love,

Barb and Ray

Christmas 2007 Newsletter

December 23, 2007 Leave a comment

Warm greetings to you at this blessed Christmas time!

We are praising God for His wonderful provision for our redemption through His precious Son, the Lord Jesus Christ …     “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:   By Whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.   But God commendeth (demonstrated) His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:1,2,8

Born in a manger, but born to die on a cruel cross, to save all those who will come to Him by faith …

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, [as] silver and gold, from your vain conversation [received] by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was fore-ordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,  Who by Him do believe in God, that raised Him up from the dead, and gave Him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.”

I Peter 1:18-21      It’s all about Him!

We are thankful for the many miles of safe travel – the Lord answered prayer in every way throughout our busy Fall schedule:  good weather, good meetings, many opportunities to present the claims of Christ, and great family-fun-times, as well!  Health-wise we have had some “speed-bumps” along the way, but His Grace is always sufficient, and we will continue to function in His strength, which He exchanges for our weaknesses – as Isaiah 40:31 encourages us …   “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew [their] strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run,  and not be weary; [and] they shall walk, and not faint.”

Much appreciation to your faithfulness in prayer and support for this ministry!

Since this time last year, three of our grandchildren have married: Ginny’s twins, Scott and Stephen, married sisters, Jessica and Rachel.  David’s daughter, Erika, is married to Robbie Reyes. We now have one great grandchild, Benjamin (Jessica and Scott), and another one due in April (for Sarah and Mike).   Judy’s twins (our grandchildren Carson and Brady) are growing so fast and, Gramma seems to be able to handle it okay!  The only frustration is that we can not share and show all of our grandchildren with you … there’s just not enough room … but do let Barb know and she’ll be happy to update you on all the family!!!

May God’s richest blessings be your portion this joyous time of the year, and may you know His wonderful love and assurance as you faithfully serve and wait for Him …

Titus 2:11-14!

In His Love,

Barb and Ray

NEWSLETTER  –  UPDATE –  September,  2007  –  Barb and Ray Payne

“O give thanks unto the LORD,  for [He is] good: for His mercy [endureth] for ever.” Psalm 107:1

Dear Friends …   How very much aware we are of the faithfulness of our God … and the dependence we have on your faithfulness in prayers for us and the work!

Signs of fall are here in the North Country … red or orange leaves on a tree… the coolness of the night air… less traffic from retreating vacationers …

Our busy summer started out with Barb’s trip to Little Rock, AR, for the birth of Judy’s twin boys, and a week later to Lynchburg, VA, when Deb had her gall bladder surgery (no picture of the gall bladder!).

(Brady John and Carson James at 3 weeks)

We were involved in several Vacation Bible School programs which had the“Rescue Zone” theme.  Locally, in Chestertown at Faith Bible ChurchPastor Paul Schultz,  Ray spoke at Closing Night … then we went to Willingboro, NJ, at First Baptist ChurchPastor Gary Tum Suden, for the last 2 days of their VBS and the Sunday Services.  Ray asked Bob Rice, the Port Authority officer who was saved during the WTC 911 tragedy, to come and give his testimony in the evening.  Then, Pastor Mark CohenEast Baptist Church in Rochester, NY, called and told us that we were the “Missionaries” of their VBS!

We were at River of Life Bible Camp, in Mayfield, Maine, August 6th through 10th, teaching at teen camp with a really great group of teens and staff!  CEF of Maine directed the camp this year and all on Director Barney Daigle’s staff did a super job, including a “veteran” Bible teacher from North Carolina!

August 5th, before camp started, Ray spoke the at Passadumkeag Baptist Church, Passadumkeag Maine (pray for them as they are without a pastor – our friends, Sandy and Pastor Jack Caron, and family, are now on staff at New Brunswick Bible Institute).  Following camp, the 12th, we stopped by Belgrade Bible ChurchPastor Larry Wiles, to give a report on the work.

We arrived home the 28th from Camp Sankanac, near Pottstown, PA, and 3 days at BCM International’s Annual Conference.  The morning of the 26th, we gave a report at Hope Community Church, in Gilbertsville, PA, Pastor Rick Knarr.

It seems like everywhere we went, the Lord gave us opportunities to work with our law enforcement “family” … ME, NJ, PA, and NY!  At camp, Ray “just happened” to be where a group of about 10 officers were about to raid a drug “farm” – hidden in a wooded area. Several of the officers remembered Ray from speaking at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy years before.  Several others were at our David’s Memorial Service, or involved in the crime scene in Lewiston back in 1988.  It’s rewarding to know that David did not die “in vain in the Lord” –  we constantly see opportunities to present Christ to those in need of a loving Saviour and Friend … a “Backup”Who will never leave!

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain

in the Lord.”

Where do we go from here?   Ray is speaking at Faith Baptist Church in Warrensburg, Pastor Lee Call, on September 2nd.  The 7ththrough the 9th, we will be at CLEO – Christian Law Enforcement Officers’ – Annual Family Retreat, at Living waters Bible Conference, in Danforth, Maine … it’s a great time where about 70 – 90 officers and families get together for fellowship and the Word!  We have been there for the past 14 years, and look forward to the friendships!

September 22ndAmy and Brian Thompson host a Law Enforcement Officers’ Fellowship at the Genesee Country Church, inOakfield, NY – a fabulous time of fellowship they’ve been doing for a number of years!   And then we head on to Wappingers Falls, NY, and 2 days of Bible teaching, the 24th and 25th, at the NY IFCA Regional meetings, hosted by Grace Bible Church, Pastor Scott Harris, where we will have opportunity to set up the “Only One Son” display and literature table.

October?  We’ll be well on our way the end of September so that we can be involved at the COPS (Concerns Of Police Survivors) Parents’ Retreat, being held this year for the first time in Little RockArkansas! Isn’t that something?!   The Lord is so good to us … we’ll get to see our daughter Judy’s family, including the twins, who’ll be 3 months old by then!  Plus, as an added bonus, we’ll get to stay with daughter Deb and family in Lynchburg, VA, on the trip BOTH ways!!!  No one can orchestrate it any better than the Lord!  On our trips to Maine, we usually see and stay with daughter Ginny and family, in Rumford.  Now, all that’s remaining is to have the Lord work out our seeing daughter BethAnne and boys down in Florida – and things are already in the working for a trip sometime in the “colder” weather!

This has been a longer-than-usual epistle … possibly because we haven’t been able to get one out sooner … but we just wanted you to know that we deeply appreciate your faithfulness in love and prayer, as well as financial support!

We would enjoy hearing from you, too!        Colossians 4:2-4

In Christ’s Eternal Love,

Barb and Ray

Update   –    Barb and Ray Payne    –     June, 2007

Dear friends and Prayer Partners, May was an exciting and encouraging month!

We learned that a recreation park in Lewiston, Maine, was being renamed in memory of our son, David, and Paul Simard, the other Lewiston Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty.  It was a huge surprise to us, however, that they planned to unveil a beautiful monument at the Dedication Service on May 16th.

The photographs do not do justice!  The LPD also presented to us 9×12 granite replicas of the memorial, plus the one side with our son’s picture.  For the Simard family, this is a tribute which comes almost 50 years after Paul’s death.

Travels covered more than 5,000 miles, including the National Police Parade in Newport, Rhode Island, Police Memorials in Augusta, Maine, and Albany, New York, and Law Enforcement Appreciations in Coatesville, Pennsylvania and Syracuse, New York.  The 1st and 2nd of the month was the sad wake and service for New York State Trooper David Brinkerhoff, who was killed in the line of duty.

More exciting news, plus a prayer request:  our daughter, Judy, is having twin boys in early June via Caesarean section!  Her ultra-sound the end of May showed that the twins were over 7 pounds then!  Please pray that Barb will stay healthy as she goes to help care for the family that includes Riley (7 1/2), Logan (6), and Emmie (3 1/2), and Etta (a 3 month old puppy!)!

We definitely rely on your prayers … not only for physical needs, but for us to be bold, Spirit-filled, and clean vessels that our Wonder-full Lord can use for His glory!  Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;   And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,   For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak”. Ephesians 6:18-20 Thank you all for your love, prayers, and gifts for the work of the ministry

In His Matchless Love,

Barb and Ray
