Rev. Raymond J. Payne Obituary and Funeral Details

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. — The Rev. Raymond J. Payne, 76, of Schroon Lake, N.Y., joined his Lord and Savior Sunday, Sept. 2, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

The Rev. Payne was born March 1, 1936, in Andalusia, Pa., the son of the late Raymond W. and Kathleen Delaney Payne.

The Rev. Payne was a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Bible, he was a pastor for 21 years serving at Calvary Baptist Church in Woodsville, N.H., Wayside Bible Baptist Church in Livermore, Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ellsworth and he was an interim pastor of the First Baptist Church in Ticonderoga, N.Y.

Following the in-line-of–duty death of his son, David R. Payne of the Lewiston Police Department, July 23, 1988, the Rev. Payne devoted his life to caring for the families of fallen police officers all over the country. He was a member of Peace Officers for Christ and the International Conference of Police Chaplains.

The Rev. Payne is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Schaul Payne of Schroon Lake, N.Y.; his daughters, Beth Williams of Bradenton, Fla., Ginny Dow and Deb Ritz, both of Lynchburg, Va., and Judy Crotts of Anchorage, Alaska; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew.

He was predeceased by his son, David Raymond in 1988; and his sister, Kathleen Payne in 1952.

  • Viewing: Edward L. Kelly Funeral Home, Schroon Lake, NY, Wednesday, September 5, 2012 from 2pm – 4pm and later at 6pm to 9pm.
  • Funeral Service: Word of Life Conference Center, reception following, Schroon Lake, NY, 1pm Thursday, September 6, 2012
  • Burial: Severance Cemetery, Schroon Lake, NY

    Our Prayers go out to Barbara and the entre Family. Ray was a Godly special fellow servant of Christ. We fondly remember the years in Maine and the Servant Sundays he preached at Bible Baptist Church of Southampton,PA. Ray’s testimony lives on in those he befriended in their time of sorrow. Ray is now reunited with his beloved son.I am sure Ray was supprised to see the faces of his spiritual children as well Sincerely Rev. Paul & Esther Williams

    Many prayers are going up in you names as you go through this time of missing your loved one. Our comfort is in the knowing that he is with our wonderfull Lord and Saviour and those that have gone on before him.We remember many times of the meetings in Maine & NH at the church in N. Conway and over in Limington.We will be keeping you and the family in our prayers
